Installing An SSL Certificate: The Step-By Step Procedure
Using SSL Certificates for encrypting the private data entered on a user’s computer to secure it throughout the route to the owner’s server has become an essentiality for the websites seeking secure online transactions. Web hosts commonly provide these certificates in their hosting packages as a part of customer service, but you may choose to purchase SSL Certificates from a company authorized to issue them, such as VeriSign or COMODO. One essential thing you should be having for an SSL Certificate installation is a dedicated IP address. Here is the detailed procedure to guide you for installing an SSL Certificate on your server:
Generate the key and a Certificate Signing Request (CSR):
Once you have got your IP address, you may proceed as follows:
Log in to your computer’s control panel – click on the SSL manager icon – click on the option of Private Key icon – go to the option of generating a new key – select the domain you want to protect through SSL – click on Generate. (Your Public Key is generated. Now save this information to be used later on. Proceeding further with a dedicated IP and the Key file, you may obtain a CSR.) Click on the SSL manager – click on the CSR generation option – opt the same domain that you had generated the key for – fill the necessary information in the form – press Generate. (Your CSR is generated. Again save these details for future use.)
Now install an SSL Certificate:
For SSL Certificate installation, get together all the CA bundle and CRT files, the generated key. Follow the steps in the given manner:
Log in to the control panel – click on the SSL installer (you need to delete any previous certificate installed to install a new one) – paste the CRT file that your SSL Certificate issuing company has provided – the key file appears automatically; if it doesn’t, then paste the copy of your key – paste entire CA file contents – click on DO IT. This accomplishes submission of the CA Certificate Authority file, the last file to be submitted.
That’s it! You have successfully installed your SSL Certificate.
